Where I work we sell 2-piece bathing suits with corresponding numbers which make it so the bathing suits can not be sold as separate pieces. Now and again they get mismated and if, after a week, we can not find the proper mate they are marked 1/2 price and can be sold as separates. Simple policy.
But today I had a customer who tried to buy a bathing suit where the top and bottom did not match. I explained policy to her and she FREAKED out. She started screaming, asking for someone with higher authority, etc. I called over my Coordinator who explained the exact goddamn policy to her… she was so pissed…
Her: “I’m not gonna buy a damn thing in this store again! My daughter (a rude 14 year old who was with her and clearly NOT embarrassed by her mother’s childish behavior) needs that TODAY!”
Me: “Ma’am, I’m sorry but we have a policy in place… but if you like you can still purchase your other items.” (shorts and flip-flops)
Her: “FUCK THAT! I’M NOT BUYING ANYTHING HERE! I’M GONNA CALL THE MANAGERS! MY DAUGHTER…blahblahblah.”… leaving the store, screaming.
A few minutes later she apparently called the store and spoke to the Manager, threatening to call Corporate. So, the Bitch ended up coming back in agreement with the Manager who sold her the bathing suit pieces HALF OFF and gave her a 10% discount for any inconveniences caused.
Oh, the ways Managers undermine their own policies and make us all look like assholes… Sometimes, I really hate retail.
